I walk ahead of myself in perpetual expectancy of miracles. In this spirit of miracles I believe it’s magical to visit a place that unravels the audacity of life itself. They say the journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step. Till today am glad I took that first step to visit Kilifi. A town in coast province, Kilifi town that is neighbored by the great ocean, the Indian Ocean.
Upon entry, the overwhelming serenity of the shining white sands beaches mesmerized me. The calmness inspired by the ocean got to me too. The citizenry of the town is one whose natives have the spirit of togetherness and brotherhood if not benevolence to all. The place has the manners, culture and general outlook of a huge country village. As a result I believed that the sole purpose of human existence is to kindle a light of meaning in the sense of mere being.
It’s through this place that I learnt the art of swimming.
I owe a lot to this great town. It nurtured me to face my fears. Above all it is here that I was taught how to swim perfectly and flow with the ocean currents. I appreciate the wide range of marine life found in Kilifi. It is only by visiting the place that I learnt of the many fish species in Kilifi. This only increased my appetite to ravage this new found food source that I had never tasted. The food cooked in this part of the country is one that made my taste buds taste new sensations.
If there is one thing I can state definitively to anyone who’ll read this simple exposition is this: I glimpse the privilege of being as a result of taking one step in the journey of a thousand miles. The alertness of that journey didn’t subtract but rather added to the magnificence of Kilifi town. It is not our inheritance merely to abide in this beautiful world, it is our inheritance to understand it. In the spirit of understanding it please do make bold moves, travel, live a simple life so that all may simply live and above all cultivate your curiosity.
Appreciating the Beauty of Kilifi
The greatest discoveries have come from people who have looked at a standard situation and seen it differently. My advice to you when travelling or visiting a place for the first time make sure you see it differently and as a result that will be your greatest discovery: the ability to appreciate nature is not through the photos one takes but through the memories created as a result of appreciating the beauty of a scenery.
If one is a blacksmith or a locksmith in reality or better even a carpenter then one is free to imagine that he or she is a king or a queen in their area of specialization. To this extent a carpenter in his virtual reality owns all the furniture produced in that reality. Kilifi in my reality is the best place I have ever been to on the Kenyan coast. The stoics say that it’s the lives in our years that matter rather than the years in the lives.
As a stoic I’ll definitively state make memories in this lives rather than to wait as the years go by. Finally I’ll conclude with the words of Mary Ann Brussat: Nature often holds a mirror so we can see clearly the ongoing processes of growth, renewal and transformation in our lives.
